Contemporary Music Proms Call for Proposals

The Contemporary Music Proms is a free entry event, supported by the Arts Council of England and National Lottery, that is a key part of Lewisham’s celebrations of being the London Borough of Culture for 2022. The event takes place over three Sundays at the beautiful part-open air, open plan green space of AMP Studios on Old Kent Road on the Northern edge of the borough. Those dates are 15th May, 19th June and 24th July. The concept is a mix of broadly contemporary classical music and sound art alongside music reflecting the cultural traditions of the wide spectrum of social, cultural and ethnic groups that make up this richly diverse borough.

Due to the timescales involved in marketing the event, we have had to move quickly to recruit the acts for Prom 1 on 15th May but there are limited spaces in Proms 2 and 3 for acts who do not have to be Lewisham-based. So we have set up a panel who will consider proposals for performances. Please bear in mind that, while artists will receive appropriate fees, the budget for paying acts needs to stay within the limits of funding so, if you are proposing larger ensemble performances, it may mean the rate per musician is considerably lower than for solo, duo or trio acts. We will do our best to spread the budget as generously as we are able for a free event. So please send a short description of your proposed act, lasting between 15 and 25 minutes (factoring in any talking to the audience between tracks) including how many people will be involved and what their roles will be. We will aim to get back to you with a decision as early as we can. Please email your proposals to dptmusicdigital@gmail.com and feel free to include links where we can watch videos, listen to recordings etc.
