NEIL MARCH & TMOS IMPRESS AT LATITUDE

Neil March & The Music of Sound played an electrifying set to an enthusiastic crowd at the BBC Introducing stage at the Latitude Festival on Sunday 16th July 2017. The line-up was Neil March (Conductor/Composer) John Molloy (Technical Director/Assistant MD) James Saxon (Piano) Matthew Saxon (Flute & Keyboards) and Mark Saxon (Cello).

The Music of Sound at Latitude

The band were introduced by BBC Radio 3  presenter Suzy Klein and played a 25 minute set consisting of three tracks from the Demerara Records released EP Music To Plan Towns By plus the epic Metrospectra III from Demerara Records compilation album This is Tomorrow Calling and the newly composed (especially for Latitude) The Whole Town Is Singing.

Neil was also interviewed for BBC Radio 3‘s Late Junction by broadcasting legend Max Reinhardt and for BBC Radio 1 & World Service by Jaguar Bingham. Tracks from the live set and the interview with Neil by Max will be played on Late Junction this week.

Reception to the performance was fantastic and it also emerged that the panel who were tasked with choosing the artists to play the BBC Introducing stage had all picked Neil on the basis of hearing Music To Plan Towns By I.

The Podcast of the Late Junction edition presented by Max Reinhardt is now available for 30 days on the BBC website and includes the live recording of Neil March & The Music of Sound performing Music To Plan Towns By – I at Latitude. Their performance appears at around 1 hour 2 minutes and is followed by some cool incisive comments from Max but of course we recommend the whole 90 minute show. You can listen to it here.

NEIL MARCH TO PLAY BBC STAGE @ LATITUDE

UK composer and recording artist Neil March has been chosen to play the BBC Introducing Stage @ Latitude on Sunday 16th July 2017. Neil and his Quintet will be on stage at 4PM. This is an amazing achievement and follows the release of his ground-breaking Music To Plan Towns By (EP) on Demerara Records.

Neil will be joined by four amazing musicians: Matthew Saxon (Flute & Keyboards) James Saxon (Keyboards) Mark Saxon (Cello) and John Molloy (Keyboards & Live Electronics). More news to follow soon.

NEIL MARCH: NEW EP IMMINENT

A new EP by UK composer Neil March will be Demerara Records‘ first new release of 2017. Music to plan towns by continues on his unique theme of using actual recordings of noises and sounds from his living and working environment not merely as effects but as instruments of melody and harmony alongside and sometimes trading blows with notated [programmed] music.

You can hear a first taster from the EP here

More news to follow soon.

ONLINE SHOP DEAL CLOSE WITH PROMOTE CLASSICAL

Demerara Records are in talks with our good friends Promote Classical about them placing all our releases in their online shop. This will be particularly useful for albums that are not going to be renewed for another year with their original distributors but can still be available to download via Promote Classical.

There will be more news on this subject as soon as the next meeting takes place.

PROPOSED INDEPENDENT MUSIC SECTOR CONFERENCE

Demerara Records and our Pop music sister label DPT Records are looking for your ideas and opinions. We (i.e. DPT Music Digital inc. Demerara & DPT Records) are considering putting on a one or two day Conference at a venue in Lewisham Borough (due to our relationship with SCS Ltd & Lewisham Borough Council) around the theme of A Digital Future for Independent Music with topics that may include variations on themes such as:

– How Streaming has forced artists & entrepreneurs to refocus their income sources
– Is there a long-term future for paid downloads?
– The Growing Importance of online media in representing new music
– The influence and impact of Social Media on independent music
– Digital Distribution: Diversification & Expansion
– The roles of membership organisations in supporting artists and entrepreneurs
– Digital Innovation: What changes should we be preparing for?
– Radio: How will national & local radio maintain their influence on the music we listen to?

Of course the Conference would be open to other relevant topics that people might suggest they present papers about. We already have confirmation from PRS that they would be happy to send a guest speaker along.

The Conference needs to be financially viable but we want it to be affordable and to not people off attending due to cost; not least since the project we are involved in with SCS & Lewisham is partly social enterprise-driven so we are thinking of something like charging £40 for those proposing to present on their chosen topics and then £20 per ticket for everyone else (with the caveat that there will be a few guest speakers invited who will not be charged). We would ideally want guest speakers to waive any fee though it is possible we can pay some expenses.

We are particularly keen to hear what others think about:

– the subject matter
– the potential prices for presenters and attendees
– the likelihood of people being prepared to come to S.E. London
– when it should take place in order to give sufficient time to organise the event and                confirm presenters
